98th edition of what's billed as Europe's oldest cherry festival — the Ravenna di Palombara cherry has been prized since the 13th century, when Pope Honorius IV had the fruit brought specially to the Vatican, earning it the nickname 'Ravenna del Papa.' A 'Simposio Nazionale del Ciliegio' at the medieval Castello Savelli brings together researchers from CREA, the Università della Tuscia, and Rome's La Sapienza, alongside decorated floats over four metres tall, a 'Cerasara' pageant, and cherry-based dishes throughout the historic centre.
