The Consorzio's stated reason: prosciutto tourism in the town is now active nearly year-round, making a single dedicated festival unnecessary. San Daniele's prosciuttifici (curing houses) still offer guided tours and tastings on an ongoing basis, and the Consorzio now runs 'Aria di San Daniele,' a touring promotional event held in other Italian cities rather than in San Daniele itself.
