72nd edition of a religious and historical wheat-harvest festival, not built around a specific dish — 'regne' (from Latin 'gremia,' bundles of wheat sheaves) refers to the wheat offerings themselves, paraded on votive carts and presented to the Vergine delle Grazie in thanks for the harvest. First documented in 1801, interrupted during WWII, and restored in 1954, the festival is today promoted by the Franciscan friars of the Convento di San Francesco, alongside folklore performances and a historical reenactment of Ottoman corsair Dragut's 1552 landing. Food stands with regional cuisine run alongside the main religious and historical program.
